GOD I FORGOT WHAT AN AMAZING MOVIE SIN CITY IS.
GAWD SO PRETTY.
Marv is so awesome. Is it weird that he's the character I feel closest too? I love how he's willing to kill to repay a kindness. He has the best one-liners too. "I love hitmen. No matter what yo do to 'em, you don't feel bad."
My least favorite storyline in the movie is The Big Fat Kill, and even that has several fantastic scenes to its name. I love the beginning of it when Shelly is trying to keep Jackie Boy out of her apartment. Everything about that scene rings so goddamn true to me. The dialog is pretty much flawless, and Benicio Del Torro and Brittany Murphy were awesome together. I believe every minute of it.
Oh goooood That Yellow Bastard. Ditto the above for Bruce Willis and Jessica Alba here. They played off each other so well, it's so awkward and glorious. The part when Hartigan is in the shower after Nancy tries to seduce him and he hears footsteps and says "No, Nancy" IS THE HOTTEST THING I HAVE EVER SEEN IN MY LIFE. AAAAAAAAH. I have a hard, deep kink for valiantly resisting seduction that you really want to give in to but you can't because it's morally wrong. PEOPLE WITH UNSHAKABLE ETHICS ARE VERY SEXY, OK?
Also, Frank Miller fascinates me because he seems to have a hate-on for men the way that most media has a hate-on for women. I've read almost all of Sin City and 300, and all of the graphic, sexualized violence therein is perpetrated against men. Whenever women are hurt, it's shown in silhouette, or simply absent any blood or views of the wounds themselves. The men who hurt them are usually obviously pathetic or so psychotic that there can't be any identifying with them. Most of the men in Sin City are villains, the few who are not are unusual. Much is made of how unique and alone-in-the-world they are. Not sure if I approve of his hate-on or not, but it's undeniably enthralling.
