Just got back from the Home Owners Association meeting. I can't remember if I told the webbernets, but very recently the HOA came in and totally stripped the bank just below the West side of my street. I mean stripped. If it was green, they cut it down or ripped it up. There were 25-year-old established trees on that bank, and now it's dirt. We got word that they were planning to do the same on the bank behind my house, so my neighbor organized us and we went around with petitions and went to the meeting today. About 20 home owners showed up (that's huge, usually there's one or two people whining about barkative dogs) and everyone had their say. The board members didn't make a particularly good impression on me (more on that later), but I think they understood that they can't strip the land anymore without people becoming extremely pissed off, and I feel assured that that won't happen. For the record, we are a community of 189 homes. For the record, they stripped the bank behind my house before. They took approximately seven healthy trees, leaving the stumps and the ground cover and one bush. It was fucking traumatic. MamaGoddess and I still cry when we talk about that memory, and I can't even properly express how much of a relief it is to know that HOA now knows that that is unacceptable to us.
RE: The board members - The men talked down to me. (All but one of the board members are men.) Fun times, but I wasn't expecting any different. I got the impression that they were talking nice because we showed up in force and they panicked, and that now they expect us to lay down and be done to again. But, my neighbor, Freya, is not letting that happen (she just came by to talk to us about distributing a summation of the meeting). And one more thing: The president of the board pissed me off endlessly. She said, among other drivel and whining, that they were handling things quietly because they didn't want the insurance company to inspect the neighborhood because of x and y problems and then we would have no insurance. Which to me says, 'We are un-insurable but instead of investing in fixing x and y and becoming insurable, we're just going to bullshit the insurance company.' Which is
So yeah, not so much happy with The Man in general, but that's nothing new, and I am extremely relieved regarding my immediate situation.

- a) totally unethical
b) a huge pain in ass when a problem arises
c) influencing decision-making in a biased and negative way
d) going to come back and bite her in the ass region.

Date: 2006-10-22 06:36 am (UTC)I've been seeing a lot of movies all by my lonesome recently, but now there are movies coming out I'd rather have someone tag along/someone to tag along with, like that one and that other one with Robin Williams, because comedies are more fun with people to laugh with.
Anyway, while trying to not sound creepy stalker-ish, I just thought I'd throw out there that anytime you have spare time and wanna go do something, I'm up for most anything on my days off. I can't help but feel a little, uhm, I guess selfish for the lack of a better word, always saying "Hey lets go do something" randomly, so inevitably I just do it less often. If that makes any sense. O_o
