modillian GOT HER SCAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARF!!!! AND SHE LIKES IT, EEEEEEEEEEP!!!
I cannot even contain my glee right now! I can't stop grinning!!
I have three production pictures, and one vid. I've been dying to show them off, but obviously, I couldn't do that until she got the scarf. I could have sworn I took more pictures, and I could just kick myself for not taking a picture of the yarn while it was on the spindle. (It's my handspun stuff, spun on a drop-spindle. Knitter/spinner's blessing: "May your spindles be fat with yarn." Mine were. ^-^)

The unspun batts! They are more blue than they look in this picture, as the next two pictures illustrate. They are 1 part each of: Merino wool, llama, mohair, and tussah or ahimsa silk. Omg, I just wanted to snuggle them. I got them from Montana, and the day they arrived was the same day that
keepaoftheceez wrote that knitting porn, so I was much with the fondling of the batts.

So, no pics of it on the spindle, but after you spin yarn, you have to process it, and set the twist so it won't unravel into a strip of loose fiber. This is a picture of that process. I love taking pictures of all my handspun in water, it just makes the yarn look so damn beautiful. This picture is a bit light-colored, though. Camera flash and all.

That is closer to what it actually looks like in the water.

Also, when you knit something there are tails left over that get woven into the fabric so it won't unravel. There was a particularly long tail on the scarf, and I used the extra yard of yarn to make a wristband (like I do with my Yarn of the Month Club samples) so now
modillian and I are bound by the bonds of yarn. :D
And here is the vid. I apologize for my quiet voice and all the background noise; I was in the parking lot of my work at 1 am. And it was windy.
Dear gods, I'm gonna be smiling for days, I'm so happy she got and it she likes it!! ^-^

so now modillian and I are bound by the bonds of yarn. :D
:DDD And what a fine way to solidify cross-continental friendships! THANK YOU SO MUCH, AGAIN, EEEEEEEEEE!

Date: 2007-02-01 11:02 pm (UTC)Yeah, theoretically, any product with which color is a factor should have this problem with computer monitors and camera flashes, but in my experience, it's particularly bad with yarn. Maybe it's the shape of the individual fibers or something. Most good online yarn/fiber vendors have very detailed descriptions of the colors to try to be more accurate, which seems totally weird to a non-yarn person. My brother gets quite a kick out of the descriptions.
And on that note, I babble a lot about yarn, and I know I did in your note too, so if that was horrifically boring, I'm sorry. I'm sort of knitting-socially stunted like that.
YOU ARE SO WELCOME AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!

Date: 2007-02-01 10:54 pm (UTC)I had this great plan (though it did not involve ten strong wookies, an onion, or a fine woman) that instead of a larger item, I was going to send you a box full of many many tiny things: wrist warmers, lost of flowers, maybe a knitted creature or two, etc. I had about half of them done when I found the most gorgeous most lovely slightly-larger item I wanted to make for you. Now what's happened is, I've got all these things ready to send, but I don't want to send them separately. That would spoil the great plan of one box-many gifts. I'm not going to tell you about my difficulties with the bigger thing, because at least that can be a surprise still. But anyways, I am working on it, but something cosmic might be working against me. Also, I have to find the file I saved your measurements in because the wrist warmers were wool and got ruined in the flooding of my room.
