So I got paid today. I got off the bus a stop after my house in order to put my check in the bank down the street. Then I started walking home. Half way between home and the bank, I heard tires squealing over my music. Not surprising, since everyone around here drives like an ass. But they kept squealing for several seconds, and I could hear the squealing getting louder as if it were approaching me. So I turn around, and about 40 feet behind me there's this bigass Dodge truck finishing a 360, coming towards me at... well, I don't know what speed, but it was still going pretty damn fast. I cussed and turned around and booked, as sane people who want to live are wont to do. Then I heard wood splintering and a kind of a slamming noise, so I figured the truck wasn't coming at me anymore and I turned back around. Still about 40 feet behind me is the truck, and two halves of a telephone pole. The top half was on the ground, and about 6 guys were getting out of an SUV that had pulled over and were yelling, "GET OUT GET OUT, THE WIRES!! THE WIRES, MAN!" Because, yeah, power lines on the ground. I walked back to see if everybody was alright, because I'm an idiot. The two guys in the truck got out ok, and the other six guys started screaming at them in a manner that led me to believe that they were all together and riding in two cars. The guy who had been driving the truck was shaking and he kept saying "I was flying, man, I was flying..." Which, yeah he was. The telephone pole broke at like 12 feet from the ground, so I assume that's where the truck hit it. I wouldn't actually know, seeing as how I was running for my life and all. Maybe I'm being dramatic, but it was fucking scary. Mind you, this is after a work day in which my register started ringing up every credit card transaction on the first card I swiped that shift rather than the one belonging to the customer in front of me, and a man requested a readmission ticket (kind of like a refund) because his father was having a heart attack and they couldn't finish watching Die Hard.
And tomorrow is Friday the 13th, ya'll.

Date: 2007-07-15 04:14 am (UTC)You know, if you ever had any questions about life, you should ask My Very Hot Friend Linzy. She works at my work and every time I bring up one of those 'I wonder why ppl always...' bizarre situations, she explains it in a manner that makes perfect sense. Like how I said ppl always have emotional breakdowns in the hallways at my work? And how that baffled me? My Very Hot Friend Linzy said: "You know how it is. You get in a fight with your boy/girlfriend, and you're pissed and sad and your best friend goes, 'Well, let's go to a movie, we'll get you outta your head for a while.' So you do, but then your boy/girlfriend calls you during it, and you end up in the hallway going, 'I'm at the movies. No, I don't wan to talk to you. I'm with Sandy, why do you care?'" When I asked her about the heart attack guy she said, "I can totally see my dad, in the middle of a heart attack, making me go get a refund before taking him to the hospital." So maybe it wasn't really the guy's fault, but his dad's.
Very much so.
because you are an action!hero today
