Right, so I finally saw the Sherlock Holmes trailer tonight at work, and I am INCOHERENT WITH GLEE. WHY DID NO ONE TELL ME ABOUT THIS BEFORE? There's HANDCUFFS and FLOATING ZOMBIES and SHIRTLESS PIT FIGHTING. To say nothing of the MASSIVE AND EPIC HOYAY. DEAR GODS, THE HOYAY.

I am pretty excited about that movie. XD It breaks from the traditional television portrayal of Holmes but so far sounds like it pays stunning attention to detail in terms of the novels, themselves.

Sherlock Holmes is one of the few things I can remember sharing with my dad when I was a kid, and I've seen a lot of variations on it, so I'm really excited to see it picked up again. Though, the other article I was reading made it sound like they mostly just restructured it to focus on the hoyay. XD

I'm still a little wary of Holmes being less...asexual, but honestly I think there's room for interpretation. I am thrilled by everything I've seen of Law's portrayal of Watson, who is far too often a little thick or bumbling in television versions when he isn't at all in the books. My dad's read everything, ever, from Doyle to the present in terms of Holmes and I also have great childhood memories of the various variations.

I...really was adverse to this movie when I heard the initial plans. I didn't even know RDJ and Law had been cast in it until...the beginning of last week. I had been all "That movie will suck. Period." My mind has been changed, and I am optimistic. :)

Yeah, that's kinda the way I feel about it as well. It's unprecedented but I can see them working it in pretty well with the rest of Holmes' character. Yeah, I always thought Watson got the short end of the stick, I'm super excited for badass!door-kicking!Watson.

Ah, see the first I heard of it was some link proclaiming "OMG RDJ IS PLAYING HOLMES!" and at that point I didn't know what to expect.

It was either the wikipedia page, or one of the articles the wikipedia page links to. It had a whole paragraph about how this movie was going to explore the friendship between Holmes and Watson.

It should go without saying that I'm pleased to see Downey Jr. again, but I'm also stoked about Mark Strong; I've seen him in RocknRolla and Revolver, two past Guy Ritchie films from which I recognize him, and he always plays very fun characters. Now that I've checked IMDB, I've discovered he's also played in a handful of other movies that I've seen, such as Sunshine, Babylon A.D., and Stardust.

They say that you learn something new every day, and, thanks you you and UrbanDictionary, I can attest to that fact; I now know what "hoyay" means.

Yeah, Stardust was the first thing I thought of when he turned up. It was his voice I recognized first, though.

"Hoyay" might be one of my favorite fandom expressions. Not because of the meaning, but because it's just really fun to say. "The hoyay is strong with this one," and stuff like that.
